I lost my 7 yr old Bulldog Winston on Aug 15. Several weeks after his loss to a heart attack my friend Laura referred me to a breeder she got her dogs from so i could get a "quality" puppy. I purchased an Olde English Bulldogge from Jo-Ann Webster in Tuscon, Az for $3500. I picked her up on October 31 at 7:45 P.M. From Logan Airport in Boston, MA.
When I arrived to cargo I noticed something was not right, the puppy's crate was loaded with vomit and the puppy was shaking and shivering nonstop. I thought it might be from the flight and I proceeded home with the pup. Once home it was still the same so I called the breeder Jo-Ann Webster from What A Mug Kennel in Tuscon, Arizona. I was shocked when my calls were ignored!
I finally got a hold of her two days later (Sunday night), she told me the puppy was vomiting because she gave her the wrong food, (she had already told me the pup was eating Iams Puppy so that was what I was feeding her). The puppy had a unbilical hernia that was just recently operated on and was oozing with puss. I questioned the puppy's severe under bite (wry jaw) three inches and she told me she would grow into it.
I also told her that the puppy has an eye infection and she told me to get eye ointment, and that it was from the plane. I questioned her about the pup's health and that's when I started to see what type of person Jo-Ann Webster is. I told her that I was really unhappy with the puppy, that I would like to send her back once I got the vomiting and eye infection under control. She was very skittish, had flakey skin, and shaking all the time.
I told her that this puppy's jaw was a big issue because she could not properly chew her food and I didn't want to have a dog with bloat. She told me I couldn't send her back and she wanted to try to sell her from my house. I was furious, but I knew I had to take care of this innocent puppy because it is not the puppy's fault. I took her to the vets only to discover she had eye infections, demodectic mange, and vomiting. I was hopeful and thought that this wasn't so bad after all. The puppy (Brickle) was so sweet and I fell in love with her.
One week had passed and Brickle had still been very sick. I called Jo-Ann and still never received any response. I emailed her asking for help for I wanted to know why Brickle was so sick. Jo-Ann told me what to give her and said If I take her to the vets for every little you will go broke! I took her back to the vets and found out she had a fever, belly rash, and ear infection on top of the vomiting and puss filled eyes. I left the vets devastated wondering why this happened to her.
I again emailed Jo-Ann no response. Weeks passed and Brickle seemed to be taking a turn for the worst.By this time she had been to three different vets and no one could figure out what was wrong with her. She had developed pneumonia and that's when I knew something really wasn't right. I emailed Jo-Ann with a nasty email and she soon responded only to tell me the puppy cannot get better because you hate it, poor poor puppy. She also told me that if the vet bills were costly. Just put her down. I was so upset because I didn't know why she was this sick.
I started researching and researching only to find that her symptoms seemed like Distemper. How could this be? She had her shots! I looked over her shot record and I was stunned. This puppy was given two vaccines with shots that had expired by 1 year 3 months (September expiration date) no wonder she was so sick. I was infuriated that Jo-Ann sent this puppy 3,000 miles across the United States to me who is a pet groomer and has other dogs.
She put the Airlines in danger, the cargo, the vets office, and even my work and my own dogs. I tested Brickle right away and tried to save her. Also while looking at health certificate, I noticed the breeder had altered the weather restrictions and wrote in the shot. I am still amazed that her vet let this puppy pass the exam!
Brickle and I struggled. She fought to stay alive and I fought to save her. I quarantined her to my home, and had relatives watch my other dogs. We tried everything even another Distemper test. It came back negative, that test really threw us off. We were going to the vets every other day trying to built up the strength to put her down. It was killing me having to put her down when I didn't even know why. I had tried every antibiotic, penicilian, I was even giving her subq injections under her skin to keep her hydrated.
It was too late, she started to have seizures and go into what seemed short lived coma's. She had high and low fevers, had puss filled eyes, and the demo manage had taken over. It was no quality of life, I made my decision she had to be put down. I brought her to Tufft's University for an autopsy. I have received the results and it is Positive for Distemper.
Jo-Ann Webster in not an ethical breeder, what she did to me and my family is horrible, but what she did to my baby puppy is even worse. This puppy did not ask to be born, left in a kennel, sold for top dollar, and die at 5 months old. It was the worse thing I could ever imagine! All because one ignorant breeder gave a puppy expired shots. For $3500 you would think she would of gone to vets for a $20 shot. I am disgusted with this breeder, I had done all of my homework before buying this puppy and had several referrals.
I guess they don't matter at this point in time. Truth is, I was scammed and this puppy was murdered by an ignorant breeder. I am 20 yrs old and just lost my puppy. Not only am I sad, I am also broke now. I live every day regretting purchasing that puppy. Then I wonder maybe she was sent to me to live her last days comfortable, not in a cage but on a couch with blankets and family around and not on a concrete floor. I just sometimes wonder if maybe her last days were the best days of her life. I hope I can recover some of my money for I have a very big loan, but more importantly I hope I can find my baby girl some justice.
I don't know if Jo-Ann Webster is a puppy mill or for that matter if that is even her real name! She also goes by the name Loni Alderson and Nancy Wells. One thing I do know is that she owns at least 25 Bulldogges and 10 or more Maltese, 5 or more Brussel Griffons and some cats. She never gives an a physical address for fear of someone seeing her place. She claims she runs a grooming, boarding, and daycare for dogs in Tuscon, Arizona. I want you to know she is not a fair woman.
I pray for justice and for Brickle. I hope someone can help me and I pray no one ever has to go through what I went through. To this day this women will not make good on this puppy. She really thinks she has done nothing wrong. Jo-ann webster/loni alderson murdered my puppy. Think twice before you ever buy a dog on-line or from a breeder that doesnt let you know what their adress is. Most of the time they have something to hide. If you ever have a gut feeling go with it! I had it the whole time doing buisness with this women and now look at what has happened. If you have read this please i beg you watch this video!
