I worked at white hen (illinois) for about a year, no unexplained absences, never late, i was damn near the model employee. I went into early labor in oct'2000 and had to stop working but i was told by diane, "take your time come back when you feel up to it".
I had my baby, then came back in january. Had to change shifts to a later one (10p-3am) to accomodate my new schedule with my baby. Many times i worked for other people, and when she asked i never refused... There was never a manager on this shift and as dangerous as it was the police barely stopped in. We were left there alone and defenseless with no protection and no phone because she did not want us using it.
One night a man came in and asked me to make him a sandwhich. We had previously been told earlier that week, that there was no plastic gloves so we don't have to make sandwhiches. This was the case for 4 or 5 days. He gets upset, calls me out of my name and informs me he will be calling my boss. I tell him go ahead. When he leaves i call her home directly.
I was told that i did nothing wrong and that everything was ok. She also tells me she will talk to him and straighten things out. She calls me the next morning and tells me that she did talk to the guy and that everything was cool, he apologized and everything was still ok, and i did nothing wrong.
Later on that day (march 16) i get a call from another employee stating that she was fired for not making that guy the sandwhich.
I go up there to pick up my check and am told there was a rumor i was to be fired too. When i come back from my 2 days off, i call up there to see if i have to work, (i was supposed to work that nite) and was told that i was'nt on the schedule.instead of telling me i was fired directly she just took me off and said nothing untill i confronted her a few weeks later.
I went up there (armed with a pocket recorder) and caught her in so many lies she could'nt keep her self straight. Stuttering and everything. When asked why i was fired, her lame excuse was because too many people were coming in and talking to me (how is this so? I live and went to school less than 2 blocks away) and because i did not make the guy a sandwhich. Also when asked why she never told me i was fired, she replied "i don't know".. Nice one diane!!! I almost got her to write down why she fired me, but when i stated " oh yeah, write down how you never told me i was fired" she got nervous and refused... What's wrong, diane don't want to incriminate yourself?
When i applied for unemployment, i was denied because she falsified the report she sent to the agency. What i caught on tape and what reads in the report are 2 different stories. And i was fired on my day off (found out later).
Since then many more issues have come out that don't put diane in such a flattering light... Like the statement "too many black people come in the store and the neighborhood is going down hill because the blacks are moving in, i should close the store", sound familiar?
African americans make up 95% of your customer base, you make all of your money from us, ooops off of us... You need to treat us better (respect) since we are making your "racist" pockets fat. Knowingly putting all the blacks on the overnite shift because you think our lives don't matter as much (because that's when the store is more likely to get robbed)... Nice one!
If you think the neighborhood is "too black" then take your "racist" views and your bullshit someplace where it will be appreciated, and hire an all white staff, (or like you said, "i don't need any of you, i'll have my family work here". Don't force the bullshit down our throats... Don't misconstue this as an attempt to get revenge.
Everything stated here is factual and nothing but the truth... When this goes to court, i feel sorry for you... You can try and get your story together, but the truth and i will prevail...
