My husband and I planned and discussed having a Basenji puppies for years. We studied the breed and their general temperment and made sure we were ready to provide a good home to a puppy before locating a breeder.
We finally decided on Tammie and Top Dog. She seemed very helpful and nice. I was actually happy to do business with her. I was very honest with her up front and told her my husband had his heart set on a dark colored, brindle, female. She assured me that was not be a problem. We paid her a $200.00 deposit plus an extra $100.00 for pick of the litter.
After the day she got the deposit, she was no longer easy to deal with. She was hard to reach and delayed in returning my calls. She spoke to me like I was stupid on the phone and told me she did not have time to deal with me because she was busy with blood hound dog shows.
I had to practically beg for photos and the one she finally sent was flash burned and blury. I explained to her that I could hardly see the puppy. Again she explained that I really didnt have any reason to see the puppy at that point because their ears were not up and their tails were not curled. I told her I did not mind. I just wanted to see the puppies. I thought that with paying for pick of the litter, we would be able to see them as they grow. (No such luck)
At six weeks old, I told Tammie I was unhappy with her service and wanted my money back. I would just choose another breeder. She sent me pics immediatelty and told me to pick the one I want NOW! The pics she sent were un clear and there were even two different dogs, she claimed to be the same dog.
I told her a second time, I just want my money back. She said she did not know what I was expecting, they didnt even have their personalities yet. I told her that I was not looking for the personality in a photo. I am looking to see what they look like.
My husbandand I beleive that the personality of a dog is inside who they are. If they are not mistreated, they will be fine. They will develop who they are and how they interact with us, once they are in our home.
After two demands for my money back, Tammie decided, I was a risk to the puppy because I was not choosing it on its personality. She informed me that she would be keeping my deposit.
The fact of the matter is, it is just bad business. She stole my money. She is a thief and a liar. Not to be trusted. If she were honest or a good person, she would have sent my money back and admitted that she knows I asked for it to be returned.
I plan to tell anyone who wants to know how she handled this situation so that other families do not have to have their hearts broken. My two children and my husband did not get the puppy they were hoping for and this woman has pocketed my money.
I have every email and every picture she sent me. I told her this was bad business and I intended to report it and gave her 2 weeks to decide to do the right thing. She chose to keep my money and have no respect for another person's feeling.
