Overpriced magazine subscription offer that looks like a renewal billing

Normally I just feed these things into the shredder, but I decided to waste some time checking into this crap. After some checking, I think it's appropriate to post a report to warn the general public of their overpriced subscription offer.

PBA mailed me an offer for READERS DIGEST magazine (I don't subscribe and never have) - a three year subscription for $74.88. Or, to have added "inflation protection, " (their words) I could get a 4 year subscription for $99.92!

What a crock of crap!!!

I went to the publisher's, READERS DIGEST, website and I could sign up for a two year subscription from the PUBLISHER for $15! This can be verified at the Readers Digest website:

So, with a bit of time to spare I checked with the BBB website. OOOOPS! A big ole "F" rating. Seems that as of September the BBB could NOT CONFIRM that this outfit was license to operate a business in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Another warning is their email address [email protected]. Seems these folks are either too cheap to have their own domain or they don't want the public to know what their domain is.

Why anyone would pay these shmoes over 3 times the rate charged by the actual magazine PUBLISHER is beyond me. I suspect they rely on the "renewal/new order" form looking similar to a legitimate billing form and that some folks will simply mail a check to renew the subscription (even if they didn't have one.) Oh, they have a disclaimer/disclosure on the back that states it's a subscription offer and not a bill but, I have to wonder how many folks simply write a check and mail it in?

My advice to folks receiving any such "NOTICE OF RENEWAL/NEW ORDER" from this outfit is to feed it to the shredder as I'm doing right now.

Cheers.
