Purchased a Corso puppy from Paragon cane Corso out of ocean springs mississippi. Had been researching the breed for quite some time. Saw the advertisement in the local paper so we went to see the puppies. The breeder reassured us that the puppies were healthy and that he had been breeding Corso's for over 7 years. Seemed to be trustworthy and that he knew about the breed a lot so I bought the puppy. At the time of purchase she had these little tiny spots on her head and he said that is was from the other dogs biting each other. Decided to go ahead and buy the puppy as to he assured me that it was nothing to worry about.
The puppy's bumps seem to be constant and grow from her head to her back. She was washed regularly as to she stayed inside with us in the house. A few weeks ago it got to the point that the puppy was loosing a lot of hair and seemed to always stink no matter how often we bathed her. Called Brian and he said that the puppy had a skin allergy.
Well within the next few days she began to develop sores and began to ooze and bleed. Took her to my vet the very next where she did a skin scrape and confirmed that she had demodetic mange or demodex. She explained to me that all dogs carry the mite and that it lives in the hair follicle of dogs. However my puppy had a hereditary immune deficiency allowing the mites to take over so I had to buy her special shampoo and put her on antibiotics to try and help the puppy to get it under control.
My vet also told me that if the puppy was not able to get the disease under control that it would be fatal and the humane thing to do once it got real bad was to put the puppy to sleep and it would be cruel for her to suffer. Also found that in the event the puppy did get the disease under control that it was highly likely to continue to have breakouts for the rest of her life. I called Brian while I was at the vet to find out what he would do about the puppy.
See if he would replace the puppy or treat her or something, anything. He told me that I was on my own that I chose that puppy and I needed to deal with it. Said that he would sell her if I agreed to administer treatment to her the way he wanted. So I put my vet on the phone and he told the vet that he wanted the puppy to be given a drug that the FDA had not approved! There is usually a reason the drugs are not approved. I posted this to allow others to know my experience with this breeder.in the end I wanted a companion and now she is so unsightly to look at and all you can do is feel sorry for her as to now she is nearly completely bald, has pus filled and bleeding sores all over her and stinks even just a few hours after a bath.
