I am a professional videographer and I now know that Solid Gold Sound is a scam operation. On 9/27/08 I was contacted by Solid Gold Sound to videotape a wedding in my area on that same day. They did not know anything about my qualifications and they did not care. They only wanted a body to handle the video on that date. They hired me with few questions asked and without requesting a sample of my work.
I explained that I could not release the wedding videotapes until I was paid in full. They agreed and I proceeded to cover the full wedding and reception as requested. I stayed later than the cut-off time agreed, as a favor to the couple.
Following the event, I contacted Solid Gold Sound to let them know that everything had gone well. They did not return my calls or emails. After several days and many calls I finally reached the President, John Kruer. He promised my check would go out immediately. That was 6 weeks ago.
Mr. Kruer does not return calls. He will promise to look into the problem and call back but never will. He will deny any knowledge of the problem although we have discussed it many times.
I now know that Solid Gold Sound is a scam operation. They are located in Kentucky but claim to have offices nationwide. This is untrue. They claim to have handled 125,000 weddings, but this is also untrue. Their service is only to collect fees from the bride and groom, locate a low cost videographer or DJ in the area of the wedding and pass the work off to them. They do not care how the work is performed. They actually refer to themselves as "The Walmart of Wedding Videos". Quality is not a big concern.
I am a professional videographer and take great pride in my work. I reduced my regular price to accomodate Solid Gold Sound because they said they were in a bind with no one to video the wedding on that date. I have not received one penny in payment for my video services.
I have called Solid Gold Sound dozens of times, spoken with their sales reps and the president himself. All have promised to resolve the issue but nothing has been done. Meanwhile, the unfortunate wedding couple will probably never receive their video because I cannot release the unedited tapes to Solid Gold Sound without payment. Solid Gold apparently doesn't care because they were paid in full by the wedding couple long in advance!
I am hoping that a class action suit will be filed against this company and it's President, John Kruer. They should not be allowed to continue in the business of scamming wedding couples, professional DJs and Videographers around the country. This has been going on for YEARS!
