Best Buy refuses return/exchange when serials don't match due to THEIR mistake!

After today i will NEVER shop at Best Buy ever again. Yesterday i purchased 2 tablets at store #305 in Schaumburg. One of the tablets was a reduced price box because it was open at $199. I had the employee make sure the pieces were all in there and decided to get it. Then i got home, opened the box and realized the tablet was damaged despite the box saying "no damage" I also noticed the serial number did not match the box. The tablet worked fine however i did not feel that the damage on the tablet was worth the discount and that i might have problems getting a year warranty on the tablet with the manufacturer due to the serial number being so old.

So i did not want to drive back to the original store because it was not close to me. I called corporate first to explain my situation since i knew there would be a problem as i work customer service at another retailer. I understood that some people may try to scam the store but i didn't want cash and this was already a RETURNED item they had on the shelf, i just wanted to EXCHANGE for the same one. I could see if it was a new unopened box OR if i wanted cash but i didn't! Now why would someone buy 2 tablets to try them out if they were just going to put their old one in the box? And why would someone want to put an old WORKING tablet for a new working one!? And why would i exchange it if i were trying to scam the company? They could have tested it to see that it worked!

Then corporate told me there was nothing they can do it the serial doesn't match despite it being THEIR FAULT the associates don't check their returns! They said theres no way they could know that so i guess all those hundreds of security cameras are useless! So i asked to speak to her supervisor. He told me there's nothing that can be done about it and that they check the items to be sure the products are correct before taking them back. He told me to drive back to the store i got it from and hope that they take it back and if not, oh well i have to eat $200. That and i would not be compensated for time or the gas money i have to pay to go all the way out there for the manager to possible say no.

So what did i do? Instead of being HONEST and going to my Best Buy and telling them the TRUTH about what happened, I ripped the serial number off the box and exchanged it for a brand NEW one. When doing so i noticed that the new store (Melrose Park #322) didn't even check the serials AT ALL and they didn't open the boxes! I could have put broken tablets in the box and they would have RESOLD it to some other poor customer who would be stuck with a $200 piece of plastic! Thanks WORST Buy, for showing me it doesn't pay to be honest and thanks for proving to me directly your associates DO NOT properly check returns nor do you care about it!

I cannot trust the integrity of their products thus i will never shop there again. To me it's not worth the aggravation or the time. The only reason i decided to buy from Best Buy because i won a gift card. From now on i will just shop at Fry's where i have never had any issues with their products and direct everyone i know to just go to Fry's. We did have an issue with a rebate their once but it was resolved since it was found the rebate company was scamming people. At least they didn't just tell me "theres nothing we can do" like Best Buy did. Whats the point of corporate office if you just tell us the same shit they tell us at the store level?

I recommend they change their website address to "bestbuyDOESNTcare.com" or "bestbuyonlycaresabout$.com"

I also recommend that if you do buy from Best Buy CHECK THE PRODUCT, check the SERIAL NUMBERS and USE A CREDIT CARD. That way in the worst case scenario you can cancel the credit card payment and get some service VIA A COURTROOM! You think Best Buy would clean up their act and have a return processing center or something specially after the story of the guy who was sold a hard drive full of bathroom tiles and they didn't want to give him an exchange.
