A Trans Moving And Storage
Beware of these ripoff artists

This is meant to inform the world of the extreme dissatisfaction that I have with A-TRANS moving services performed for me on August 1st. My complaints are many:

1.) Their dispatcher called me on the evening of July 31st to inform me that their moving crew would be at my location to move my household goods between 8 AM and 10 AM on August 1st. The moving crew did not arrive at my location until almost 11:30 AM. This unacceptable late arrival had the effect of delaying my plans and arrangements for the move.

2.) Their quote included two dish boxes and two wardrobe boxes. The crew foreman informed me that this was incorrect and that I would be charged for all of the boxes that they had to use. I repeatedly asked the crew foreman for an invoice that detailed and listed all of the boxes that I was paying for, but he refused to do so. The only evidence of box use by the A-Trans crew was a line charge on the bill of lading that was over $400.

3.) Their quote said nothing about a so-called long carry, which was incurred due to the fact that the pick-up location was on the third floor of my apartment complex. Had this information been disclosed, I would not have contracted with A-Trans to perform my move. They added a $150 long carry charge to the invoice. This is unacceptable as this policy had not been disclosed in the contract or quote.

4.) I have a wooden frame glass dining hutch that had to be moved. The foreman told me that it had to be moved in a wood crate and that this was extra. All the moving crew did was wrap the dining hutch in a single layer of bubble wrap and then in a single layer of single wall cardboard. The piece of furniture was not transported in a wooden crate as the crew foreman said it would be. For this service, A-TRANS charged me another $150. It took A-TRANS less than 15 minutes and less than $10 worth of materials to perform this so-called service. Such an exorbitant charge for what essentially amounts to a non-service is grossly unacceptable.

5.) The work performed by A-TRANS was slow at best. I did a long distance move in 2007 and I had a comparable amount of personal belongings. It took the 2-person moving crew in 2007 only 2 hours to pack all of my household goods. It took A-TRANS' 3-person crew well over four hours. This unacceptable pace of work had the effect of delaying my plans and arrangements for the move.

6.) The aforementioned delays had the effect of not completing the move on August 1st (a FRIDAY) the date promised by A-TRANS' quote and dispatcher. Upon stopping less than midway though the drive to the moving destination. A-TRANS informed me that they would not make it to the destination as planned and that they would need to complete the move on Sunday, August 3rd. Apparently A-TRANS does not work on Saturdays. The quote was for a one day move. The fact that the move was not completed in one day is unacceptable.

7.) A-TRANS' quote also promised disassembly and reassembly of furniture. The moving crew arrived with no tools of their own and had to ask me several times for tools. I ended up performing significant assembly and disassembly on my own. That their service did not provide what was promised in their quote is unacceptable.

8.) Upon stopping midway through the drive to the moving destination (as mentioned in item #6), the crew foreman suggested that I tip him and his crew. After offering what I deemed to be an acceptable gratuity, he informed me that my gratuity was too little and that he normally gets about $100 (each crew member) for such a job. (his words) As A-TRANS was in possession of my household goods at the time, and I wanted my belongings, I relented. This coercive ploy to get even more money is unacceptable.

9.) The moving crew foreman repeatedly refused to obtain and/or produce a weight ticket that indicated the empty weight of the truck. His reasoning was that he showed me a state-issued registration form that indicated that the truck weighed 12,000 lbs. The moving crew did provide a certified loaded weight ticket. Unfortunately, the state-issued registration form could not legitimately count as an empty weight ticket as there was no accounting for gasoline, other fluids, and the blankets that the crew used to wrap furniture. The moving crew foreman's abject refusal to provide an empty weight ticket is unconscionable and unacceptable.
