I purchased a dog from Margret Nolan in August. She had an eight month old male that she said she could sell me for a good price. I explained to her that I wanted this dog from grooming/obedience/agility competitions. The dog must be of good temperment. She said he was and his price was 1200.00. I said ok and went to told her I was in North Carolina so it would be three weeks before I would be home. She said no problem send her a check for a deposit.
I picked up the dog three weeks later from her groomer. Ms Nolan stated she would be out of town for a job. I should have been alerted then, I usually like to see a breeder's facility. I have been working around dogs all my life, so he was very good with me. I walked him around, put him in the van and left. I got him home and kept him quiet for a couple of days let him settle in. At this time I noticed he was very weary of ALL the neighbors in the area, so I chalked this up to his change of residency. I had to run him to the vet on the second day to fulfill my health check clause on the contract I signed with Ms. Nolan. He needed to be muzzled at the vet, he was one of the most aggressive dogs my vet had ever seen. I still gave him the benefit of the doubt, which I shouldn't have.
On the third day, a friend of mine stopped in to see me. I put him on a leash, had her walk up to the side of him (non dominant) and avoid eye contact. To my dismay, he tried to bite her. She was lucky she only got a couple of teeth marks on her, not her skin broken. I punished him on the spot and put him in a down. At this point, I knew he had a temperment issue.
I took him to an experienced dog trainer in Stuart, FL at the Dog Planet, LLC. This gentlemen had experience in Schutzhund, Agility, Obedience, and other dog sports. He told me this dog was very dangerous and would need extensive work. He also said this dog would NEVER be suitable for what I needed him for. I took him back to Inverness the next day, because being sued over a dangerous dog is something I was not willing to risk. I kept his AKC papers because Ms Nolan would not meet with me, but once again said to drop him off at her groomers.
I took her to small claims court and won my judgement against her. As you know, winning the judgement is easy, collecting is another matter. I am in the process of finishing that paperwork. And I am still without $1200.00. Please buyers beware of this Breeder.
She also runs a rescue agency out of the same place as her kennel. Though I applaud the rescue of animals, her puppies have been exposed to various diseases. I was going to trade her out a puppy for the dog, but the litter she had at the moment were at the vet because she said they had Parvo.
