APX ALARM Securiy Solutions Fradulent Sales Tactics Provo Utah
We signed up for a three year contract with APX Alarm in June. An agent for APX was soliciting door to door installations and it just so happened we were the victims of a recent burglary. It seemed like a good idea at the time to have the " added security" of having a monitoring system installed. However the contract specifies that the recipient has three business days to cancel.
This is the first sign that something is wrong. No one can judge the satisfaction of a product like this in three days. You have to have experienced an actual situation or at least have several months of use to determine if the unit is working correctly, no false alarms, reliability of equipment, monitoring agency ect.
We moved a year after the installation as the crime in the area was getting to my family. The new state we were moving into and the housing was secure and had no need for a monitoring system. When contacting APX to explain this we were told that there were no circumstances that the contract could be canceled and that we owed the balance of the remaining three years in full.
After reading many other similar issues with APX alarm on consumer websites it appears that this company is dealing in a fraudulent manner in that they mis represent the terms of agreement when they implied "customer satisfaction and piece of mind" using their product. We moved because the criminal activity in the area was not offset by simply having an alarm system. And now we find that there are no circumstances that we can come to a terms of contract other than to pay in full.
We have not used the monitoring service so there is no cost to them as there is nothing to monitor. The equipment is all wireless and was simply installed in a matter of hours. The lesson here is never sign a contract that has no cancellation clause or does not include a early cancellation period that has enough time for one to evaluate the system.
