I rented a townhouse from this company. Upon leaving the rental manager conducted an inspection without me being their. I spoke with her on the phone shortly after the inspection. With the exception of a few minor problems that I agreed to, she stated that the townhouse was in good order. I specifically asked her if there were any other problems to let me know so I could see them and possibly fix them. She stated, "there are no other problems."
Later I received a bill for over $600 to repair a vinyl floor in the kitchen and to unstop a toilet. I maintain that these problems DID NOT exist. When I askesd her to let me see the damages, she said they were fixed. This is a violation of Tennessee 66-28-301 law stating that the tenant will be given a chance to see damages being billed for. She said if I did not pay the bill my credit would be damaged.
I was told from a reliable source this real estate company had a history of doing this to soldiers in this transient military town; that the soldiers moving were in too much of a hurry and did not have the money to fight them, so they usually paid and saved thier credit report.
Does anyone know how I can fix this without spending twice the money in lawyer fees. WARNING: Beware of Byers and Harvey if you move to Clarksville, TN. This is only one example of numerous problems I have had with them.
