On March 11th I took one of my daughters to basketball practice at a different school than the one she attends because of conflicting sport schedules with another school team. Well this school is on the other side of town than the other, and I didnt want to waste gas going all the way home, so I went to a nearby kmart store for the hour wait.
I had 4 of my daughters with me and a daughters friend. Two of my daughters were 7 and 9, and two were 15 and 16, there friend is 15. We came into the store together but my older daughters and their friend were about 5 to 10 steps behind me, so I think the employees thought they came alone. I went to the childrens clothing department to look for clothes for pictures for my younger children, the other girls were in the shoe department which is about 5 feet away, behind me, they were there all of two minutes, maybe at the most. They then were helping me, but I didnt see anything I liked so we decided to go get some candy, we had been in the store for about 10 minutes at this time.
When we started walking down a main back isle the girls again were about 5 feet in front of me when a security guard asked me if the girls were with me, I said yes, she was putting of surgical gloves at the time and asked another associate if these were the girls and she said yes. Well, I immediately went on the offensive and said wait a minute we just got here 10 minutes ago and they were with me the whole time! Then the security guard got snotty and said no they were in here on Sunday and were seen stealing stuff and her associate said it was them, that she recognized them. I said no way that I hadnt been to kmart since before Christmas and my daughters dont drive and I dont let them go anywhere without me, (I am very over protective and glad of it now!) We were all at home on Sunday together, (The ironic thing is that we have a very good friend that works at kmart and he was over our house on Sunday!) I did not tell them that.
She still insisted that they fit the description of the girls, so I asked what was the description, and she said this, THREE YOUNG TEENAGE GIRLS! Can you believe that?! I said that is it I am never shopping here again and took my girls and went to get a manager, after I told him everything, he looked like he didnt know what to say, I said to him that you cant go around accusing somebody of something with no proof, that it is discriminating against all teenage girls, You cant just say it was 3 youn teenage girls and when you see 3 young teenage girls together its automatically them! Then he tells me that actually it was 4 youn teenage girls, that did it, I said Iv'e had it and was gonna tell everyone what happened! He said he was sorry and he would talk to them. Big Deal!
As I was leaving one of my daughters seen one of kmarts employees mocking me with her mouth and hands and laughing, and my daughter said you dont need to be mocking my mom like that and I turned around to find out who did it so I could tell the manager but he was long gone. So we left the store and immediately when I got home I got online to contact kmart corp. But there complaints site was down, big suprise! So I called them instead.
She took my complaint and my name and number and said she would have someone contact me within 48 hours. I recieved a phone call the next day and it was the same manager I talked to at the store. All he said was I want to apolgize for what happened yesterday, can I offer you 10 percent off your next purchase? I couldnt believe the gall! I told him I will never shop at kmart of sears again! I also explained that it wasnt about money, it is about pride and the humilation of being talked to that way in front of the whole store, and that no amount of money can make that right! I also told him about the mocking employee, he said he wasnt aware of that and would still like to offer me 10 percent off my next purchase. WHAT PART OF NO AND I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN DONT THEY UNDERSTAND!!!???
I said I want them all fired and not to be able to work in any affiliated store of kmarts. I want a public apology by the offenders to my daughters and her friend. He then says he will have his head of security call me to talk about what happened, I am tired of talking to them, I am gonna talk to my lawyer now!!!
