Just recieved a letter and instantly figured this was a scam!
Legit credit collecters ALWAYS include the original creditor and a way to contact THEM directly.
The letter states this is a settlement offer to pay 50% on outstanding balance (again no explanation and odd for a first contact correspondance).
I called the number on the poorly written letter and was requested to enter the phone number I called from (again odd) as well as my social (are they serious)??!!
I haven't had the chance to speak w/anyone yet because I called after "business hours."
I will take heed, however and record all phone calls. Plus, the letter states I have 30days to reply in writting to refute/dispute the claims. So I will do so as well.
I have never heard of nor done business w/Resurgent Capital Services. So I looked them up on the BBB as well and found their reputation is positive, however I was never in collection w/them, as they are ALSO a collection agency. Does that make sense?!
Any advise? I see no success stories posted and it appears they've been able to get away w/this for quite some time now.
