My name is Gary, Yes I am a locksmith, since 1978. We do alot of commercial work, Safes, Vaults, Alarms, so these guys don't affect me like some smaller companys. But how does the average joe figure out which company will be there when something goes wrong. Which company has a Virginia Business License. Which has Insurance. PS, I have 4 Million Dollars coverage as required by most Companies we do work for.
Question: A guy from out of state comes to your house & rekeys your locks then you pay him not the quoted price, but one much higher one. But your OK with because he did a good job. Weeks go by & your house has a few things missing, you call the same guy again, but the phone number does not work. Then you think well he does have a Key to my house.
If the truck has out of state plates: Write down the License plate number & ask for ID. Just make sure the Locksmith has a Business License in your state, Proof of Insurance, and has a real address in your area. The trucks have lettering on them & they are not trying to hid there business
