My fiance and I paid $300 for a baby gray squirrel, and drove 8 hrs to Marshall IN to pick him up. We had a hard time finding the place b/c it was in the middle of no where. The place was a dump. The inside of the house smelled nasty and the carpet was torn up - coinccidentaly she would not let us see where the squirrels were kept. After we signed all the paper work she said that if something were to happen to the little guy - "if he died that we would need to get an autopsy report." Strange coming from a woman who just sold you an animal. He sneezed while we were there and she said he was fine. (yeah) It didn't occur to me that he might have been ill because he looked ok.
So we packed up our squirrel and drove 8 hrs home. He slept most of the way, which i didn't think anything of, b/c he was a baby. As the next day progressed, he became more and more sluggish. I tried to contact her via phone but her voicemial was always full. The day after, i woke up to a dead squirrel in the cage. We took him for an autopsy that cost another $200. The dr. Said it was pnemonia, which explains why he was sneezing. *to objectors - i did not aspirate when feeding the squirrel. I was VERY careful.* She offered to replace the squirrel, even though in her agreement she didn't have to. WE tried to stay in touch but she wouldn't return our phone call so emails for months. Anway, that was 8 months ago, and now she "claims" she lost the whole litter this season. So here we are. Over $500 in expenses, and not a thing to show for it.
This woman is a scam artist. After MONTHS of being given the run around she we finally contacted a lawyer. He did some investigations and told us that she has done this to others too.
