I received a letter, supposedly from this "Law Firm", when I arrived home yesterday. I was perplexed asto what it refered to, soI gave them a call to get information.
I spoke with a Mr. Nathanal White, and explained I was confused what this was about. He proceded to explain that the creditor had turned this account over to their agency for payment. I kept explaining I had no idea what it was for. He was very persistant about getting it paid.
Sorry, but I'm not sending money to anyone, without an understanding of the facts, of which he really couldn't give me. He suggested that it was possibly a personal loan. I know this is not true.
During our conversation, we were disconnected. I returned the call, to only sit on hold and listen to horrible music for ten minutes before reaching him again.in the meantime, he had called my cell phone back and left a nasty message, wanting to know why I hung up on him. We were actually disconnected once again, and again he left a message on my voice mail.
Anything I said, he tried to turn around, and accused me of lying. He threatened that I would be sued if I didn't make a settlement and that it would show on my Credit Report. He asked for a check #, asked if I could borrow the money from someone, or get a personal loan to make payment. I was not willing to comply to any of these options.
Well, Mr. White is not a pleasant person, and very intimidating, to say the least.By the end of the conversation, I was terribly upset and close to tears.
I got hold of myself and contacted my Attorney. She drew up a letter that I am to send by Certified Mail in response to this interaction.
I am following up by filing this report, along with notifying the state Attorney General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission.By law, I have the right to sue this collector within one year. I am seriously considering this action.
Mr. White has violated many Federal Laws by things he said and threatened to do. For more information on this, you can check the federal law, called the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act: it is called 15 U.S.C. (United States Code). I did, it's very informative and I learned a lot.
It's a shame that people are allowed to do this and my greatest hope is that someone will stop them from harassing others. I fortunately, am not a fool, but God Bless the ones who fall for this, and buckle under their intimidating pressure.
