Pertaining to my family's relocation from Plymouth, IN, to Albuquerque, NM, this letter serves as official notice, and request to file a claim against OD Transportation LTD, also known as OD MOVING, on the following damaged/lost property.
There are no words that can truly express our dissatisfaction and disgust with the entire moving experience with this company:
Please note: Prior to deciding on the moving company, I received several quotes. Our home was a 2400 square foot Victorian. All quotes were within a few hundred dollars of each other. All quotes consisted of approx 1300-1500 cubic feet, w / approx 8500-10,000 lbs, AND included the transport of our 1997 Harley Davidson. All quotes included packing/wrapping service. *We were told that clothing items could be left inside, and transported within dressers and drawers.*
6/28/06: Received e-mail from Dave, OD Sales Manger, stating the movers will be there at 7/5/06 8-9 am. (Print out of e-mail included with this correspondence)
7/5/06: Wire transfer to OD Moving in the amount of $5600.
DAY 1- BREACH OF AGREEMENT
07/05/06: No show. Calls were made to Dave. Dave did not take my calls. His assistant argued that movers were to arrive on 7/6/06 before 10AM eastern.
Travel and Hotel arrangements had to be cancelled, and rescheduled.
DAY 2
7/06/06:2-Movers arrived after 11:30AM eastern in a PENSKE RENTAL TRUCK. They came with very limited packing materials and moving supplies. They had no moving equipment. I immediately sent an e-mail to OD MOVING. (print out of e-mail included with this correspondence)
Please note: Only 1 of the movers spoke (very broken) English. His name was Josh'. Upon immediate observation, they realized the truck was insufficient, and they were unprepared. They immediately made phone calls. After nearly and hour on the phone, the movers began packing and wrapping our items, with the assurance that another truck is coming. Due to the language barrier, I could never get a clear answer when I asked for details. Having a deadline, and schedule to follow, we allowed them to continue at this point, thinking a BIGGER truck was on the way. Then, to our surprise, they began loading the RENTAL truck. Again, I asked for details. The answer was unclear, due to the language barrier, but Josh kept saying that a SECOND truck is coming. We were then made to believe that 2 trucks would be transporting our property to New Mexico.
Mid-afternoon, Josh approached me in the master bedroom to solicit me for a tip' of $100 each.
Approximately 4:00PM, Josh asked to take a break, and go eat. They closed the door to the truck (at that point almost full) and drove away. They returned 2 1/2 hours later, with an EMPTY TRUCK! When asked where our property was, the mover explained they had rented a storage unit in town. They did so without my permission. Josh would not give me the name, or location of the unit. He would not provide me with any details or access to the storage units. At this point, we were unsure what to do, as no one at OD Moving would answer our repeated attempts to call. We later found out that the storage facility was Huber's Mini Storage 1981 West Jefferson Street, Plymouth, IN 46563 (574) 935-5512.
That evening at approximately 7:30PM, my wife and I went to dinner. Our 20 year old son supervised the mover's.
We returned to find the movers had broken a porcelain birdbath/planter that was situated in our front yard. They moved the broken planter to the side of the house, did not admit to any wrong doing. At first, Josh denied breaking the planter. (Before and after pictures included w / this claim)
Upon entering the house, we observed the following (pictures included)
Items were being randomly packed. Food items dumped' into boxes w / kitchen items.
ONE crystal goblet was left on a shelf. Entire set was packed and taken to storage unit.
SEVERAL BROKEN, collectible Disney snow globes on the floor
Collectible items that were on shelves (and should've been packed) were discarded, some broken, and lying on the floor with other trash.
Single shoes down stairs, and not with clothing items where they were originally.
Clothing items that were to remain, and be transported in the dressers and drawers, were removed, and separately boxed.
Broken glass and other broken items scattered throughout the house, on the floor
As I was upstairs, expressing my dissatisfaction with Josh. My wife called out for HELP, from downstairs. The mover, who spoke little English at all, had approached my wife. He had her cornered in the office. My wife felt threatened by his advancement, and aggressive demeanor. She demanded he wait outside. The mover took another step toward her. She then took out her cell phone and informed him that she would be call 9-1-1. That was when she screamed for HELP. He seemed to understand her then, and retreated to the outside. At this point, we demanded the movers stop for the night, and leave the premises. They were instructed to return by 7:00AM the next morning.
DAY 3
7/7/06: Packing/loading resumed.By noon, the truck was full again. They drove away with the truck. I followed them to Huber's Mini Storage. They rented a SECOND STORAGE UNIT. Once again, they unloaded the truck, and returned to the house.
As the day progressed, the remainder of the packing became even more disorganized, and hap-hazard. More items were broken. Several miscellaneous items were left on shelves, and in drawers.
They finished at approximately 8PM, on Friday, July 7th. It was then that I found out that during the packing and loading, Josh neglected to list details of the box's, and their contents. Just before the movers pulled away for the final time, Josh solicited me for the tip once again.
Upon the receipt of this letter, list of damaged items and photos, copies of the illegible contract from O.D. Transportation, LTD, we hereby request to file a claim
