Several years ago I rented a refrigerator from Azuma Leasing while living in California. Prior to moving to Texas (two years ago), I returned the equipment and closed my account.
Last week, I got an e-mail from them saying that I owe $200. I called and spoke to someone, whose name I do not recall. I asked that they send me, by U.S. Mail, an audit of my account and show why I owed them money and provide a reason for the two year lapse in communication. I was told that they did not have to send anything by mail and that if I did not pay the balance in full that my delinquency would be reported to the credit reporting agencies. When I asked to speak to a manager, the person to whom I was speaking hung up.
Then yesterday, I received another e-mail from Azuma leasing. This e-mail stated that I owe $853 and, again, threatened my credit rating if I failed to pay the full amount immediately.
I will continue to try to get Azuma Leasing to provide me with PROOF, but as each bad encounter and inconsistent accounting of what I "owe" them continues, I will be more and more inclined to doubt even their proof.
