Got this invoice in the mail for $499.00 for "advertising" thank god my accounting department flagged it and I had to review it prior to payment!
I researched it online and found it was fraud.
Contact the Plattsburgh Police Dept unfortunately the detective working on this was not available.
From what I can understand, the address on the invoice is 20 minutes south of Canada. The address is also a MailBoxes Etc.
They seem to think that these people are driving in from canada to A) Mail these invoices so they appear to be coming from the U.S. And B) They are driving in to pick up their mail.
The police cant seem to get the registrants of the box at this time because they are still seeking a warrant for this information.
I guess it is only fraud once a check is sent and cashed, and hoopefully someone that actually sent the money will come forward so that these people can be brought to justice!
I am sure that many companies are simply paying theis bogus invoice without researching it's merit.
I for one will be filing a complaint with the police department and the state attorney general.
