Last year I moved from one city to another in New Hampshire, about 30 minutes apart. I scheduled DirecTV to move the service, although I informed them that I might not have an appropriate view. The service guy arrived, and sure enough, I don't have an appropriate direction to pick up the signal from my condo. He mentioned that he doesn't get paid if installation is not possible. About a day later DirecTV phoned me to confirm that installation was not possible.
Yet they sent me another monthly bill (which I paid, thinking it was for the last month at my previous address). Then another bill. I phoned them, and they insisted that I should have explicitly canceled service for the old location, despite the fact that they knew my service was being moved. She reduced the bill to a partial month, which I later grudgingly paid.
This was not the end of the story. I then received a bill for $125 as an early termination fee, yet no service had ever been installed in the new location. I ignored it. Another bill the next month added interest for a total of $125.65, and then I received a letter from a collection agency for this amount. I sent the agency a letter explaining that this was a frivolous charge and requesting, according to law, that they stop bothering me. Now I have received a letter from another collection agency for this amount, offering to settle for 50%.
Beware of DirecTV. I had been satisfied with their signal service and wanted to use them again once I move again. Not any more. This is pitiful customer service.
