Ikea Credit Service
Horrible customer service ripoff El Paso Texas

After applying online for the Ikea Credit, an approved screen appeared informing I was approved, and to print out this page as my temporary shopping pass. I wrote down the credit card number supplied to me, but my printer was unuseable at the time, so I was unable to print it out - my own fault.

When I went into store, I asked if it was possible to do an account look-up at the purchase time. I was informed by the sales associate that they do not do that - which I found rather odd, since most stores that do offer credit services do in fact have that function. I asked if I could simply use the credit card number I had wrote down - foolish, I know - and I was once again informed, no.

I asked if there was management that could assist me - once again no. The associate told me to call back the credit customer service since they could reissue a temporary pass via the internet.

I went home, called customer service and was informed that was impossible. I was a little aggravated since I had planned by day around some key shopping I needed to do in order to finish cleaning and fixing my rooms.

I asked them if it would be possible, since the account was brand new, to close it and then have me re-open it in store. I was told my the credit service agent on the phone that YES, I could do that, and YES it would work and I could do it, yes, THAT SAME DAY.

Fine, so we closed my account, I returned to the store and went to the use machine inside their store.

My application was promptly denied.

So I tried again, and was denied. I used the phone to call customer service and was informed that doing this would not work as my account was still in the system.

So now this shows up as a negative mark on my credit card, having opened a card, having it reported lost/stolen, and then trying to reapply for it.

At this point I was anger as I was being tossed around and misinformed by every source. I called back and was reconnected to the original agent who had told me I could cancel my account and reapply. He reopened my account, but unfortunately I would have to wait 10 days for it arrive in the mail.

Furious, I agreed to it since I would have time in two weeks to finish what I had to do.

So I waited, called customer service back in a few days to double check everything was O.K. With my account, which it was, they said.

A few days later I got a letter in the mail saying my account could not be reopened - but I simply ignored it since it stated I hadn't used my account in over 60 days - which is a suprise considering I hadn't even had an open account for more than 10 days.

Finally, the 10th day arrive (excluding Sundays since mail isn't delivered on those days). Mail came. No Ikea card.

I called back customer service, furious now, since once again, they had failed me. Once again I was connected to a very curt, and incompetent associate who did not understand that it had been over 10 mail days. She seemed to be under the thinking that Ikea mail, specifically, is not carried by U.S. Postal service on Mondays.

Either way, I was not informed that it would be 10 BUSINESS days or 10 MAIL days, simply, I was told, by more than one credit service associate, it would take TEN days.

In my brief experience with the Ikea credit card, I have found their card to be a hassle; their customer service, rude, incompetent and sorely lacking; and that their focus, more so, is not on helping customers, but aggravating the sh* out of them.
