I have gotten three of these letters within a week. The first was from the International Sweepstakes Reporter then three days later I got the National Awards Commission and Consumer Direct Enterprises letters. Each one asks for a processing fee before releasing the prize money. I called a scam hotline at 1-888-495-8501 after the first one and they warned me about the others.
They also said that if you sent the money in you would probably get a call anywhere from a few months to a few years later asking for $3,000 to clear up the processing problems that are stopping them from sending the check. Sometimes they even send you a check for the $3,000 which you are supposed to cash and use to buy a money order. Then when the check bounces you are still held responsible for the money.
We are also supposed to get the word out to local newspapers that these scams are going around so that nobody else gets caught.
