I got a phone call asking if I wanted cheap long distance. I agreed. Without asking they took over my local service too. The long distance was cheap, but they charged outrageous amounts for the local service. I immediately cancelled. They said that they could not release my line due to techincal problems. They turned off my phone service (not able to call), but other phone companies (SBC, Sprint) could not get my service back saying that Talk.com refused to release the line. My phone line was hijacked, unusable for 6 months and they continued to bill $64/month for this madness.
Note these other complaints against them:
