My husband and I purchased a bulldog puppy from Alice White of Malsons Bulldogs in August. We drove to her residence in Bakersfield and she showed us about 30 puppies from at least 4 litters that she claimed were all hers.
The puppies were filthy, and covered in feces. The daughter washed ours in diswahsing soap before we took her home and she broke out in hives the next morning.
As we were paying for the puppy Alice disclosed to us that she didn't have the registration papers for the puppy, but not to worry. She would definitely have them in a week. (I have purchased many, many, purebred puppies in the past and have NEVER WAITED FOR REGISTRATION PAPERS!)
Reputable breeders register their litters the day they are born, so they have the papers to give to the new owners.
With that being the case we gave Alice half of the purchase price in cash and I gave her a postdated check for the balance which I told her to deposit the following week, the same time she said I would have the papers.
Of course a week came and went and many excuses later there were still no papers so I placed a stop payment on Alices check. I got their attention then. Her husband began calling and threatening me and told me how DISHONEST I WAS by taking a puppy and not paying for it! I explained to him when he produced the papers for this puppy that I would gladly pay him. He told me that I would have to drive back to Bakersfield to get my papers and bring him cash and that was the only way I would get my papers. He also told me to bring the puppy back because he was sorry he had sold it to me!
Eventually Alice did send the papers, and I did pay her in full for the puppy. My puppy has also had some eye problems, but on the whole has been a pretty healthy dog. After reading all these threads I feel very lucky that she has been this healthy, but I do know of someone else who purchased a very sick puppy from Alice, returned the puppy and did not get her money back.
Something needs to be done about this woman. She is definitely running a puppy mill and her business practices are questionable at best.
