Flat Rate Movers lost some very valuable and irreplacable items during a recent cross country move and so far has taken thousands of our dollars.
We hired Flat Rate Movers Ltd. For a cross country move from Brooklyn, NY to Austin, TX. The total cost was $3,925.00, which we paid in two parts, at packing and delivery. The pickup of our goods in Brooklyn happened without incident, and the first leg of the move was paid in full, $1,962.50.
However, when the moving truck arrived in Austin, TX on July 10, many important items, including an irreplacable very rare book collection (marked "fragile" all over the box), half of our bed frame, a vintage cabinet, a dining table and book shelves, did not arrive. The other boxes and furniture that did arrive were badly beat up.
When the mover arrived, he required that we pay the second part of our move in full, $1,962.50 to get our items off the truck.
Later, after our items did not check up with the inventory sheet, we did not get our money back, even though the services were not rendered to completion.
We contacted numerous Flat Rate employees several times and the company has so far not been able to locate our missing items. Flat Rate either lost or stole irreplacable items, such as the book collection, that we entrusted them with.
