I have been a breeder for the majority of my life. My Grandmother started breeding dogs in 1964 which means that I have been around this my WHOLE LIFE! I first became aware of the horror of Anna when I had a very broken hearted family come to purchase a Malti-poo puppy. They explained to me the horror they had encountered 2 weeks before. Their story goes a little something like this...
They went into Anna's in hopes of finding that perfect bundle of love. Anna explained to them that they could see her vet after purchase at her expense or their own vet at their expense. She also claimed that the puppy had been vet checked and was in "perfect health." It was not 2 days later that their puppy became ill and they took the puppy to their own vet. Their vet did a fecal test and revealed that their puppy was sick with the Parvo virus. They immediately gave Anna a call and told them that their vet had suggested that they call and let her know what they were dealing with. She simply said "bring the puppy back" so they did. They called the next day so see how the puppy was doing and Anna claimed that HER VET said that the puppy was perfectly fine, that she gave it some PEPTO BISMOL and was mailing them a health certificate and told them that THEIR vet was crazy and she had healthy puppies. Just as promised a health statement came in that mail but something about it was just not right. The certificate looked to be authentic but after closer comparison with the certificate and their bill of sale that handwriting was exactly the same! Anna fabricated about the puppy being healthy and even went to the cruel extent of make a fake health statement! Are you shocked yet, get ready it gets better.
In 2003 Anna was convicted of practicing veterinary medicine without a license. She was doing tail docking and dewclaw removal at her shop. They also found several SICK puppies that she was treating without vet supervision or prescription! Anna pleaded not guilty though that was her plea, she was sentenced to 6 months probation. Obviously the state thought differently.in 1999 American Kennel Club yanked her registration privileges for not identifying her dogs properly and not keeping good records and was sentenced to 10 years of no registrations. It is pretty bad when AKC does not even want to play with you. And just recently on June 16th of 2005 Anna was under the watchful eye again. L.A. County issued a search warrant for her home and both her shop after many many angry people who bought sick puppies demanded that something be done about this cruel money hungry woman who treats these poor puppy like products.in the recent "limelight" Anna has changed her business name from the Cockapoo Connection to California Cockapoo's. Anna's famous words to a grieving family of a sick puppy is "puppies sometimes die." She is not at all sorry or remorseful! The bottom line is she has to be stopped in her tracks! If anyone is reading this that has been involved with Anna and had a bad experience please understand the following:
California has a law governing the sale of dogs. It is called the "Puppy Lemon Law" it is there to protect you from monsters like Anna. Before you purchase a puppy from ANY PERSON go on the Internet and get familiar it.in some cases print it and have the breeder sign it as a way of knowing that they understand that they have an obligation to you! And lastly, do your research before buying a puppy, ask a lot of questions and get to know the breeder you are about to buy from. If the house is filthy don't buy, more than likely the pups have been kept the same way. Your buying experience should be without a doubt a comfortable, non stressful, wonderful experience. Make sure your puppy comes with a REAL statement of health from a licensed vet. And lastly, get a WRITTEN HEALTH GUARANTEE! I would never send one of my puppies out the door without a health guarantee. Take your time when buying a puppy and remember that it is a 10 - 15 year commitment.
