I received my SBC bill and found that an unknown company calling itself USBI had charged my phone bill for an imaginary 11 minutes to the United Kingdom at a number they list as 044127777041 at a price of 26.79. Well I guess I don't need to say that I made no such call.
I don't know anyone in the United Kingdom and if I did, I would not be paying $2.43 a minute. It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to know there are much cheaper ways to call.
I called USBI and their "friendly customer service agent" tried to tell me that I didn't make the phone call but I "agreed to the charges on the internet". Hmmmm... Nope, that didn't compute either. I asked them what website they were alleging I made this exorbinant call from and they stated "they are unable to determine what the website was" and instructed me to go "check my history during the time that call was supposed to have been made".
All of this explanation was given with a smile and a swift kick in the butt. I'm glad to have found this site to see I'm not alone in this. Thank you for all the information about ways to fight this. I'm not going to let them get me this way.
