I signed my two children, ages 17 and 20, up for SFT Casting after receiving assurances from the telephone sales agent that it would only cost about $4 & change a week, and they had many listings for movie extra and acting work in New Mexico. I was told we had a 7 day trial period, within which we could cancel. We got on the website a number of times in the first week or so, but there was consistenly only one listing for a casting call in New Mexico.
My daughter posted her information and photos on the website, but never received a single call.
After 7 days, they started charging me $19.80 per kid per month, in advance. I tried to find a way to cancel my son's account on the website, without success. I called the agency, and after a long wait, I got someone in customer service who told me I could not cancel on a day on which I had logged on to my son's account. I had done so, of course, looking for a way to cancel.
Weeks later, I tried calling back and kept on hold for so long I gave up. Finally, I got through on one occasion and was told that it was too late to cancel for the month;I had already been billed for the service charge. I was told to call back on a particular date the following month. I forgot.
I finally remembered to call again, and asked to cancel both kids'accounts. I was on hold for about 10-15 minutes before someone answered. I was told that I could cancel, but if I did, my children could not use the website even though I had been billed in advance for nearly a whole month more.
Apparently, the only way to cancel without losing money is to call on the phone precisely one or two days before they debit your account. What a ripoff! A revealing comment from the customer service agent was that SFT could not be expected to cancel accounts as of a certain date in the future, when they were dealing with hundreds of thousands of "members."
