About 3 years ago MMT Music/Bruce Goodwin placed an ad in our home town paper. "STAR SEARCH" it was titled. We called the phone number and was told that they were looking for vocalist. There would be a sign up fee, which I canot remember the amount, and you could sing one song. You would be filmed and have the opportunity to win a record deal.
AND if you sold enough tickets to the showcase, you could sing more than one song. Which would give you the chance to really show your talent.
Well, I had a child who was very talented and thought, ok... Maybe this was the way things are done. We went with high hopes to the showcase. A few days after the showcase we got a phone call from Bruce Goodwin. He said that our child was wonderful and talented and for 2,500 he would be willing to send her original music, get her recorded and see what he could do. I will say that he NEVER made any guarantees to us. He even said that there was NO guarantee that he could make her a "star".
With that understood, we had him send a contract. Signed contract and $2,500 went off to MMT MUSIC. Since that time we have received numerous cassettes containing what I call twangy 60's style country music. We have asked that he send more modern sounding music only to receive more old style stuff.
I have ran into 2 people that I saw showcased that day. Both of them said they had been contacted by Bruce Goodwin. One of which myself and others in that showcase audience had a hard time not laughing. He was just awful! At that point I felt I had given our money to someone who would take money from anyone who had it to give. Someone who robbed people legally through their dreams of stardom.
My tip to anyone who is looking into working with Bruce Goodwin or MMT Music is to ask for samples of work he has done. Ask for letters of recommendations and ask for proof he has helped in the success of those who he claims he has had a hand in.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to know when people are trying to help you or just trying to take your money. MMT Music/Bruce Goodwin did what he said he would do. He DID tape my child's performance, he DID send her music. But do to the lack of quality of the music she has not recorded anything.
So, make sure your contract mentions current up to date sounds for your music. Whether this company can deliver everything it claims, I don't know. We haven't been able to get past the bad music to find out.
