We rent from Barrett Management, L.C. We live in a townhouse complex where each unit is two stories. For the past two years we have had problems with our air conditioner unit not running properly and living in very high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. So far this year since April, our maintenance man has recharged the unit I believe 2 times, averaging about once a month so far this summer. It was the same last summer.in between times this year he also had to come out and release some of the coolant, which I think is freon, because he had over charged it. The air in the house blows but it does not blow cool enough to reduce the temp. After he charges it, it runs well for a month or a little less before it goes out again. The last time we had to call him he refused to answer our phone calls. When he finally came over two days after we began calling about the problem he told us he just didn't feel like answering our calls. I called the main office this morning and they told me the problem would be fixed and did not know that the maintenance man had been recharging the system because he had been telling them there was nothing wrong with it. We have been trying very hard to be nice in this situation but sometimes it is difficult when you are suffering from the heat. The only thing I have said to the maintenance man that was even close to rude was, "if you had just answered one of our calls, we would have known you were coming for sure and would not have called anymore". To that he shrugged his shoulders and gave us a brush off and that was when he told us he just didn't feel like talking to us. He has told us several times that there is no return air upstairs and that we should expect it to be hot there but that it shouldn't be this hot downstairs. We accept that as it is an architects design error and not the fault of the management, but the AC unit not working at all IS their fault. We don't have the money to move and other than this problem, the place is nice and don't really want to move. We just don't know what to do anymore other than suffer through it. I don't think it is legal to keep recharging a freon system every month and not fixing the leak, I believe that carries a hefty fine and are looking into what we can pursue on that end of things. But meanwhile, if there are any researchers considering moving in here, think twice. If you can find another place you like as much, it is well worth going somewhere else.
