Two nights ago a tall, middle-aged black man with glasses and claiming to have a stutter, was going door to door in my neighborhood. He was asking for donations to a youth organization to keep troubled kids off the street called Urban Horizons. Thinking I was donating to charity and a good cause, I wrote a check for $15 and gave it to him.
Today the check cleared my bank account and was endorsed by Urban Horizons, so I thought all was good. But I had a bad feeling, so I wanted to validate that this was a legitimate organization, so I drove by the address listed to find a crummy, worn-down home on a dead end. This is a SCAM! In some cases I've heard of children being used to collect donations.
