It is what you make of it, either you can go there and actually get something out of it or you can just bullshit and be the same person you were before you went there. Can't speak for everyone but from my experiences being at jobcore it's been up and down but mainly up, i have learned a lot since i have been there and my attitude has changed drastically since when i first arrived. When i first got there i was a little lazy when it came down to cleaning and i was hotheaded at times when pushed the wrong way, lets just say i'm nice but i will never back down from a fight which i almost had a lot of them through the course of my time.
Through the first 5 weeks i actually took part of there leadership they had through the dorms and through the months i work my way from the bottom which was leader over the laundry room to the Vice president of one of the best dorms on the campus so i felt a great deal of accomplishment by that alone. Leadership helped me talk to people better and to work with different people overall and through that i learned how to walk away from a fight and even prevent peers of mines from fighting themselves. Now as my trade goes within a year i have already completed 2 trades which was Culinary Arts and Facility Maintenance while succeeding in taking my dorm close to the top of most cleanliness of dorms. I'm now proud to say i'm going into my third year at jobcore and bout to complete, and i say third year becasue for the last year and a half i been attending college so yes i did take advantage of all they have to offer.
There's issues then and there that i still got a problem with but hey it is what you make of it and me i made a success of it. Yes there are some people that i look at and wonder why are they still here because believe me not evrybody in there is there to learn and i have worked with them all from the thieves to the ones that don't give a damn and will try to fight you for even loooking at them wrong, to the ones that are trying but can't yet get it down fully and those were ones i took under my wing and help them out through campus.
Little bit of advice for those considering jobcore watch who you hang around with because the wrong crowd will get you in trouble and mess up you oppurtunity of success, and i have seen that happen with the quite students who don't talk much or even some good kids who got potential to get the best out of program but make wrong decision of peers and end up getting terminated over some stuff he had no business doing so that plays a big part as well so find someone positive to be around and thats going make you wanna do better. Luckly for me i had good roommates from the start that showed me the ropes and kept my head on straight and they were the ones i called friends cause they kept me out of trouble and made me wanna do better.
I have seen it all at jobcore so i'm just saying it has its positive and negatives so if you are about bettering your life i say this is a perfect place for you because it will teach you time management, how to work with all sorts of poeple in society, and how to keep a job. And before i go it irks me when people say people from jobcore ghetto or they bad, Hello! These are your regular everyday people off the streets so don't judge cause i was one of them street people at one time and look what i have accomplished so please don't say people from jobcore cause these are same people you will see at work or even in your household so yea don't look at everyone thta goes there is a criminal because i never got arrested a day in my life (knock on wood) it's just everyday people like myself that have struggled in the real world at some point in life trying to get there life on track and i'm proud to say i have attended Jocore.
