I sent in my renewal in plenty of time before my birthday. It got delayed. It took forever.in the meantime, someone hacked into my checking account, so I had to change my account. Since it was taking forever to receive my license in the mail, & I had tried to get a temp license from someone over the phone (from the DMV) who was rude & hung up on me, I went into the DMV PERSONALLY to get a temp license.
When I got the temp license, I offered the clerk the $31, to which he explained that the check had been cashed, so it wasn't necessary.
I received my license in the mail. A couple months later, I received a note that my check was "bad, " & that I had to send $61 to the DMV, which I did.
Today, I received a notice that my driver's license had been cancelled.
I called & spoke to someone who didn't speak English very well, who flippantly informed me that they usually send a letter explaining that the $61 needed to be via money order (after telling me to check my bank records for my cancelled $61 check, which didn't make any sense).
When I tried to explain to him what had happened (& that I had since moved several times, & I am currently living w / family to avoid an eviction due to unemployment), he had NO compassion, & simply repeated himself.
I asked to speak to a supervisor, who he said would call me back. So far, no one has called.
I will probably end up going in person, pay the $61, take the written test & pay for a new license (which is what he told me I'd have to do).
At no point in time did I do anything wrong. I was trying to do what the system asked of me, & was penalized for it every step of the way.
I will ask my back if they can verify that I had to change checking accounts. I highly doubt that this supervisor will do me much good.
Again, I'll probably just go to the DMV on next business day and start all over again.
Unbelievable. Truly.
