I have been dealing with an appeal of an overpayment (as a result of an error by a past employer, which has now been corrected) for the past month. I have contacted the Unemployment office via phone 5 times since May 7th. Twice I spoke with representatives, explained my situation and that I faxed information relevant to the appeal as requested. They both assured me they would alert their supervisor and that I would receive back payment.
I have not been able to collect unemployment for over a month now because of this error. Twice I left messages with their Appeals department to no avail. I cannot get anyone there to return a call to me. I just sat on hold for over an hour waiting for someone to answer the phone and finally hung up. According to them, when you fax an appeal, you will receive information regarding a court hearing within 10 days. If you do not receive anything, you are to call them. I did that and have spent a month trying to get an explanation and/or resolution to this. I even spoke with someone who had no idea that it states on their website to contact them if you have not received a letter in the mail. I argued with her that that was why I was calling and that yes, it was stated on their website.
This situation has left me with no money for bills and very VERY frustrated. I understand they are "backed up", but people are living without money while they are "backed up." Maybe they should hire some of us unemployed people to help with this situation?
