I recieved a call from a representative of The Fraternal Order of Police. He was soliciting a donation. My wife and I found several articles that indicated that not all Police supported that organization. I informed the representative of this fact and he did the typical professional telemarketing fast talking routine. From this I assumed that I was not talking to someone associated with the Police, so I asked him if he was part of the police. He answered "Yes, I am a member of the Fraternal Order of Police". This set me off, and I must admit that I lost my cool at this point.in my opinion this statement misrepresents The Fraternal Order of Police as a legitimate law enforcement agency. I knew that this was patently false, and I told the representative as much then hung up on him. We looked The Fraternal Order of Police up on http://www.charitynavigator.org and were informed that there are no listings at that site for non charitable organizations. We then went to http://en. Wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraternal_Order_of_Police and found out that this is a Union, NOT a CHARITY!!! I do contribute to some unions, but I will never contribute to a union that misrepresents itself.in my opinion, Organized Labor that actively engages in decieving the public is not Organized Labor, it is Organized Crime. At the very least, the representitive should have opened the conversation by saying the "Fraternal Order of Police" is a Union that represents Police Officers nationwide.
I understand that my impression of this organization is based on an interaction with a single individual. That being said, I feel very strongly that an organization of Police that cannot police itself has no prayer of being able to help police the community I live in. I have come away from this incident with the impression that The Fraternal Order of Police is doing a grave disservice to the men and women that risk their lives daily to protect our communities.
