N.C. State Legislature
Misleading public information

Government officials refuse to inform the public of a 5 year study released in 1990 indicating people wearing seat belts have a seventy percent greater chance of injury or death; statistics from the N.C. Medical Examiner's office in 1995 indicate thirty nine percent of the total deaths on the highway in N.C. For 1995 were attributed to the seat belt and/or shoulder harness; statistics from the Fatality Analysis Research Service in the year 2000 indicate more than 10,000 deaths nationwide in the U.S. On the highways in 1999 were attributed to the seat belt and/or shoulder harness.in April, the State of S.C. Voted down a mandatory seat belt law due to "Too many states and minucipalities are using this legislation as an illegal revenue enhancement program with total disregard for the freedom of the public or the possibility of the public being injured or killed by this apparatus."

North Carolina, and other states enforcing a mandatory seat belt law are only after the money. The legislation cannot be protecting the health or welfare of the public (as these states claim) and causing the death of so many people on the highway!
