She advertised a condo for rent in October. She said the current residents were moving out by November 11th. I met her at a coffee shop and she showed up with a very informal rental agreement that she hand wrote. My gut instinct was that it seemed a little shady but I thought she was just being cool. I gave her a $1000 check on October 17 that she immediately cashed the same day. Which again, I thought was shady considering that most rental deposit checks are suppose to be deposited into a secure account. After I gave her the partial deposit and signed the rental agreement to move in on Nov. 14th, I noticed she had not removed the posting on Craiglist. On October 29th, I went to her work to give her the remaining $750 deposit I asked her why she hadn't removed it and she said because she forgot. She again cashed the check the same day. On Nov. 2 she contacts me to ask if she could push the move in date to Dec. 2 after our rental agreement specified the 14th. I told her no we couldn't wait to move in since our current lease was up on Nov. 17th. I advised that if she needed more time to just give us our deposit back. As of today we still have not received it back and I plan on taking her to court. Do not give this lady any money!!!
