As a former employee of Palmetto Marketing Incorporation, i am here to explain some of what goes on on the inside. FIRST please do not blame employees, they are simply lured in. I was approached by someone selling magazines, i did not buy one but they asked me if I would like a job. I was desprate for a job and a way to get out of my situation. I took the job on the promise that this was a real corporation, that provided hotel accomadations as well as no less than 20$ a day for food. It sounded a little shady to me but i took the job anyway.
I was told that what i was to do was to approach people at their doors and tell them i was in a contest for newly graduated people, how i was to win was to collect "points toward winning a trip to cancaun mexico and a thousand dollars in cash". At first i thought i was really in a contest until i didn't see any data to keep track of these supposed points. At the end of every day we brought our checks and money to a room and filled out a report on how much we made that day, then we handed everything over to our bosses. We then recieved our payment for the day. Our payment is another thing, i was told that the cost was divided between the marketing company and the salesmans front, what i didn't know was they then would split the salesmans front between the sales company and the salesman, and then split it one more time between cash and money on your "books".
EXAMPLE 30$ magazine = 15$ to PMI, 7.50$ to the sales company, and lastly 3.25$ to my books and 3.25$ in my pocket. The money on the books was to be used for hotel lodging (may i remind you i was told i was not to be held for that expense) and whatever was leftover was to be sent to you if you ever left. I left over 8 months ago and have not seen a single penny. Most people sold about 10 magazines a day so at the end of the day you got 32.50$. They treat their employees like crap, for example we walked around in any weather, from 8 in the morning to sometimes 9 at night, i was always made to work alone and that was dangerous. After experiencing this for 3 months and catching on to what was really going on i quit.
So i say this for all employees, Please do not make us out to be the bad guys, we are all just niave young adults trying to do our jobs in the best way we can. I understand and appologize for all of your misfortunes because of this company and i wish i could make your lives better. The best advice i can give you is to call the magazine publishing company and inform as many people as you can. As a former employee i feel bad for the kids doing this because they are pawns in someone elses game. Please understand and stop blaming us, blame the company and our higher authority.
