I just received a call from a guy named Robert from number 631-896-6045 at Stanford Who's Who. They had a banner in FB / Linked in which "claimed" free-listing and for which i shared my contact info. Like everyone else here, I was walked through a flattering interview process and then asked if I wished to pay $899 for a platinum membership.
I spent the next 10 minutes declining all of the offers presented. Since I was not rude and did not simply hang up the guy reached the point of offering me the listing for $ 399, which I also declined. He very methodically was trying to get my CC details which i said i don't have with me now. He still insisted on me going down to my car and get the CC. At that point i was totally convinced this is indeed must be a SCAM. Whatelse a sweet soundig voice from NY can be..
Finally, I told him I was turned off by their approach and did not want anything to do with the company and hung up.
How dare they use STANFORD name for a scam like this?!
I was lucky compared to the other folks in here and I highly recommend avoiding this company. It is also important to decline several times as you never know how they can take recorded conversations out of context.in the days of Linked In and Facebook, I don't understand how these companies can get away with this.
Facebook / Linked in, can you BAN this gusy from advertisng?
