My account is with HSBC in Oman, but the regional office is as bad. Reason for saying this, is an accumulation of events. First, they cancelled the online banking without informing me (even they claimed to have done), leaving repeating transfers not being honored. To reinstate this, it took three weeks until I was able to make transfers, paying interest for late transfers at the oversea's banks. I am presetly in Europe for business and even explaining to them this fact, they asked me to come to one of their Oman branches!!! Trying to call the Premier Account Agent in Oman is a waste of time and money... Doesn't pick up the phone most of the time or the mailbox is full. Because someone used my credit card unauthorized, the HSBC card fraud prevention called and we decided to issue a new card. I told the agent that I will send him my address in Europe per mail (acknowledged by read receipt), only to be called by Aramex Oman, two weeks later, that I have personally receive the mail in Oman. Now it is about four weeks, about 30 e-mails, 10 telephone calls ago and I still haven't received my credit card. Has someone out there, who knows the PR department (mail or telephone) of the HSBC headoffice?
Anyway, beside Lehman Brothers, this is obviously the least functional bank out there. With this performance, I hope they never expect to get money from the EU umbrella, because they will not "find" the money to pay it back.
