Let me start off by saying Kirby's are wonderful products. My mother owns one and we have been quite pleased with it. However the people who run the kirby business are coniving and scandalous. They make promises and guarantees about how much money you will recieve and then do not follow through.
I saw an ad in the local paper that looked very appealing it stated no experience was required and 1600 dollars a month was guaranteed pay. The secretary who was the nicest and most honest person there told us that we would be trained to show the Kirby to customers and to assist them with any problems they were having. The Area Distributor told us that he had appointments already set up and that we would NOT be going door to door.
However, he pulled me aside later and asked if I would be interested in being what was called a Canvasser. He told me I would be going door to door and asking people if we could give them a free carpet shampoo. He said that every house that let us in I would recieve 5 dollars and every sale made I would recieve 50 dollars and a 100 dollar bonus at the end of every week I came for all 6 days. It sounded ok to me and at first everything was fine.
The first week we worked from 10am-6pm Mon-Sat and I pulled in 475 dollars because 6 kirbys were sold and I recieved my bonus. However the 2nd week we begin working longer and later we worked from 10am-8:30pm Mon-Sat. It was hot and tireing but I wasn't concerned because I thought hey more work=more money. Wrong. The second week I only recieved 175 for working 51 hours. I questioned why so little and he said it was because nothing was sold and I only got into 15 houses that week. I said ok but I was starting to get antsy.
The following week i missed a day of work on Saturday because my electricty went off during the night and my alarm didnt go off. I called in and told him what happend and he said it was ok but I wouldn't get my bonus for the following week. I said thats reasonable I can't expect it if I don't go to work however I had 2 sales that hadnt cleared yet so I knew I still had a 100 dollars comeing to me. That week I also missed Friday, Saturday, and Monday due to hurricane Charley.
Friday was pay day so I still hadn't recieved my check for my sales. I went back to work on Tuesday and asked for my check for the sales I had made and for the houses I had gotten into. He looked surprised and said "I dont have you down for any sales". I started to get a little nervous because I really needed that money seeing as how I hadnt been paid for 2 weeks. He checked his records and said yes I had sold 2 kirbys but that I hadnt come to work all 6 days so I wasn't entitled to my 100 dollar bonus. I agreed but then he said since I hadn't earned my bonus I owed HIM a 100 dollars. Therefore he only paid me 30 dollars for the 6 houses I had gotten into.
I was outraged I had only been paid 30 for 2 weeks worth of work. I knew I had worked well over 50 hours and I told him I was going to find another job. He was totally rude with me and begin saying he knew I would quit and that's why he hadn't fired me. He proceeded to tell me that I didn't have what it took to be a salesman and it was my own fault I hadn't earned more money. He tried telling me that my boyfriend was makeing me quit and that I had no backbone and I wasn't able to think for myself.
My experience with Eleet Distributing is one that I would never wish on my worst enemies. The distributor there is extremely rude and is out to help no one but himself.
