This guy uses the same template to scam people out of their items off craigslist and Kijiji. We are selling a violin and he tried the same BS. Do your research people! Stick to the advice local classified websites recommend.
It starts with his opener: either the "Seminar Scam" or the "Handicap Scam". We got the Seminar scam.
"Hi,
Thanks for the response. I am willing to pay your asking price and I
would have love to come and take a look at it before buying it but am
presently out of the City for a seminar and I don't know when I will
be back to City but I don't mind if you can email me more pictures of
the item. I will pay by Money Order as it's the only way I can pay you
at the moment. I will make arrangement for the pick-up after payment
has been received and cashed by you. I don’t mind adding an extra $100
so you can keep it in my favor. Reply with your Full Name, Full
Contact Address not P. O Box and your Cell Phone Number where payment
should be sent. Please take the posting off craigslist today and
consider it sold to me. Looking forward to your email as soon
possible. Have a fantastic day!
Regards."
Then his end game is this...
"I want to inform you that my assistant have send out the payment to
your contact address you gave me... But there is something i think i
must bring to your notice. After a reconciliation of my account, I
discovered that some how my assistant have over paid you by adding the
shipping fee to the money sent to you., however i want to believe i
won't have any problem with this and if i can trust you with my Money"
Pretty much we accept his money order and the bank WOULD've called us back a week later telling us its a fraud cheque and he now has our violin. Beware of FRAUDS!!!
