I put an ad up for a couch that I am selling on Craiglist for $400. On April 22 I received this e-mail from Rachel Alanna:

Do you still have the item for sale? And how long have you been using it.
Rachel Alanna.
I replied with how long how I have had it for and that she can come look at the couch anytime. She replied with this:
I will have love to pay you a visit in your place and check the item out but i am handicapped can't walk. Can you please send me some more pix of it and it's present condition?

I had a gut feeling that this was a scam BUT I replied with more pics. I next received this e-mail:
Alright, the payment will be made via PayPal for the safety of both.
So i will like to have your PayPal email address where the funds will
be sent. And also the address where it will be picked up because am
arranging for a pick. But the reason am buying is because i will be
needing it as soon as am home. So i'll need it to get home before me.
So as soon as the funds is cleared in your account, they will come for
the pick up.
Please write me back today.

I checked my PayPal account and my balance was still $0.00... No transactions had been made. Then I received a few e-mails about PayPal "changing their policy":

We do not appreciate any calls due to attending to many customer, we advice you to get back to us via this email to get full details of this transaction.

These e-mails looked like they came from [email protected] but REALLY came from pp201techemail.com. I called PayPal immediately and they said it was a scam right away. First of all, Western Union and PayPal are competitors, so PayPal would NEVER ask for you to transfer money via Western Union. Luckily, I did not give "Rachel Alanna" any money, but it was such a waste of time. I hope this helps somebody not to get scammed!
