When I checked my AmEx statement this month, I discovered several unauthorized charges for magazine subscriptions. I do not have any interest in subscribing to Family Circle magazine. I decided years ago that the National Geographics were piling up way too quickly.
And the Atlantic magazine I did not request was also an unpleasant surprise. I called American Express, and of course they immediately removed the charges. But I am getting really tired of wasting my time on this kind of crap. I suppose that plenty of people do not have the time to review their credit card statements; even if they do, they may not recognize that they are being stolen from by something as innocuous as a magazine subscription company.
When I called the mag company directly, I was put on hold (with the requisite obnoxious music) for about 20 minutes until I said, This is dumb. Please check your credit card statements carefully; if you don't you're potentially being ripped off.
