February 17- I just received a call from Roni Martin, Director of Palladia Inc. - Homebase located at 2276 Third Avenue, NY, NY, and was told that my recent application for a rental arrears grant had been denied by her office. I believe that this organization is using discriminatory practices in making decisions about who they give these grants to, and feel that they are being discriminatory against me and my case!
Ms Martin told me that she could not use the rent money that I receive from my roommate every month in the organization's consideration. This is outrageous! I have lived in my apartment for 15 years, and have always paid my rent on time except for a 3-4 month period in 2011 when I lost a client. Even then, however, I was paying partial rent for those particular months. I have paid the rent in full since getting my new roommate in September but Ms Martin insists that her organization cannot accept my roommate's monthly rent toward my financial well being in paying future rent. This is absolutely outrageous, and I do not believe that Ms Martin is following her funder's guidelines for making such decisions. She told me that the funder is HUD.
I am getting arrears assistance from four or five other NYC social services organizations who "accepted" the same documentation that I provided to Ms Martin's organization. I would like to make a formal complaint against this organization, and how they are using Federal, City and/or State funds, and denying grants to eligible applicants. I would like to request an investigation of this office and its organization.
