Fidelity Investments - Michael Slowik
Ripoff employee harassment, set-up, unfair termination

I thought I had found my "Dream-Job" with Fidelity Investments. I made a company move to Kentucky from Texas in June 1994. Everything was going great until January 1996 when Michael Slowik was allowed to become the 3rd shift manager of Brokerage New Accounts. That was my department. At first, I took up for him because he was new. I can say about 98% of my 3rd shift co-workers didn't like him. But, I believe in giving everone the benefit of the doubt. I worked as hard for him as I did any other manager.

I did have some issues (mostly transportation) that I had to alter my schedule sometimes, but I always checked with him first. About 5 months of his management, he began harassing me about my transportation issues. I had to pick up my daughter from her night job. It wasn't anything that could possibly get in someone elses way. It didn't affect my work; until the harassement got worse. He even put me on 3 months probation for being ill. And, during that time, he even tried to get me to lie on my timesheet, which needless to say, that was the ONLY time I didn't do what he told me to do. He was trying to set me up so he could terminate me over that. He even told me one time that he was so mad at me that he wanted to hit me.

My work accuracy level was between 75 & 85%. Finally, the great day came when Mike Slowik was given a daytime shift. We got a new manager who was nice to me. My work accuracy level went up to 95% to 100% every week. But, I still had some "old ghost" problems that I was trying and working very hard to get taken care of and out of my life. My personal finance problems had nothing to do with my work at Fidelity.

It was then the time of year for seasonal layoffs for the temporary. But this year, they took it a step further. Fidelity was pinching pennies. I got booted out because they thought my personal problems were a "risk" to the company. I had never done anything dis-honest while employed with them. They tried to find every little thing on me possible&which was a "dismissed" bankruptcy many years before I new Fidelity existed. I feel sure Mike Slowik had something to do with it. He still fussed about me even when he went to day shift.

Fidelity moved about 35 people and their families to Kentucky. We were to be the pioneers.in fact, I was the first one in my department to move. But, I think more people than just myself were booted out of a job. Some people moved back to Texas, but the other original Texas people were either layed off or fired. Fidelity "used" us as pawns in their little game to get the wheels turning in Kentucky. Even some of the Texas executives got the boot. See, in order to get the big "tax break" to build their 3 campuses on the hill in Covington, KY, Fidelity had to promise to hire so-many (I think at least 1000) employees in a certain amount of time that were already residents of Kentucky and of course it helped them to "plant the seed" for them to move us from Texas to Kentucky.

So I guess my main rant & rave is, I got harassed & pawned & screwed by Fidelity Investments.

In a nutshell, if you plan to work for Fidelity Investments, just always plan to bendover kiss butts. If you don't do that, they will kick you out.
