I must have taken some online survey to get a free $40 Visa gift card. A man called in the early part of January saying that I won the card and continue on this spiel about what I'd be participating in, basically I had somehow screwed myself into some program that I would be charge $19.99/month, and I could cancel at any time. With that he provided a free blue topaz ring from Holsted Jewelers, and I only had to pay s&h. I tried several times to decline, he then promised me no charge (no s & h), several weeks later I got the ring after being charged $6.99 to my checking acct. I received a letter from Holsted Jewelers about the ring, and in a very subtle way, they told me I had to call the 1-800 number to cancel any future orders and charges. I'd be sent a new piece every 4 to 6 weeks (being charged the full price each time). I called the number and the lady tried several times to get me to purchase a blue sapphire bracelet (orig. $100) for $13.99. She said I was also going to be sent matching blue topaz earrings to go with the ring from before. Do not buy ANYTHING from Holsted! If anyone tries to scam you over the phone, say no or hang up, don't give them your debit or credit card info... And be careful on the surveys you take online. They always seem too good to be true, and they are!
