False Advertisement to Win a Prize - First Prizie 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5

False Advertisement: I received an advertisement from Metro Nissan of Montclair. The advertisement said, "You could win this 2012 NIssan Altima 2.5. If the number you scratched off matches the winning number, YOU'VE WON ONE OF THE PRIZES LISTED! JUST BRING THIS INVITATION AND YOUR KEY TO EVENT LOCATION DURING EVENT HOURS TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE!" 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5, $5,000 Cash, 55" Sony 3-D TV, Sony Vaio Touch Screen PC, 64 GB IPAD with Case, 2 US Minted Gold Color Collector Coins. Note: this was a 11x17 colorful brochure with a vehicle key attached. A vacation package was listed on the second page next to a vehicle for sale. It wasn't clear if a person bought the vehicle they would get the vacation package to. It was clearly that the vacation package was not included in the list of items to win. There was a $50 refundable deposit, and to see the dealer for details.

The winner is suppose to call a toll-free number and report their Personal Activation Code. Actually, the winner is calling the dealership to make an appointment. I went to Metro Nissan of Montclair. The 2012 Nissan Altima was parked on the side of the lot, not easily seen by customers, and a sales person takes you to the vehicle where there is a sign in the front window with additional numbers that must matched to the so called winning numbers you have.

Needless to say, I was upset with their trickery. I told the saleman, matching additional numbers were not advertised. We go into the building where I met the Manager, and I told him the same. It's one lie after another lie. He takes my advertisement (that had a car key on it) comes back and gives me two worthless gold coins in a white envelope. Not the coins pictured in their advertisement, 1789-1989 The Congress Bicentennial Gold Coin worth $439-499. The Manager tells me the coins are what the bank gave them. I told him he should not have advertised one coin and then give out another, it's misleading and false advertisement. He leaves and comes back offering me a vacation that was not listed as one of the prizes. I refused both. I asked for my advertisement back. I noticed the key was removed. I asked the Manager why was the key removed and he said it belonged to them.

The bottom line is this. The dealership is only as good as the management and staff. I would never do business with Metro Nissan of Montclair. If they lie about a simple drawing, imagine what they would do to you during a multi-thousand dollar contract for a vehicle. The Manager told one lie after another. My elderly mother was with me. We were never offered to sit at a table or in a office, we were sitting out in the open as people were walking by. Is that how you treat a protential customer? The Manager in my opinion was shady and a lier. I feel sorry for the staff. The salesman I came in contact with were pleasant. They knew what was going on because when I asked questions, they didn't say much and quickly referred me to the Manager. Misleading the public into believing they won something is wrong.

My time is more important to me and I would have rather spent that evening doing something more meaningful than spending it haggling over some nonsence. When I think this situation over, perhaps it was a good experience after all. I know now NOT TO EVER SHOP AT METRO NISSAN OF MONTCLAIR because of their untruthfulness, and lack of customer service.

P.S. I have won a television from a dealership before and a vacation package. I won exactly what was advertised. I understand this business because I worked for one years ago part-time, however, they did not do this sort of thing. Warning - do not trust this dealership with your hard earned money! Do your reserach. I'm glad I wasn't out a penny - nor was I going to accept worthless coins and a vacation package for the evil deeds of this Manager. Buyer beware!
