Oakwood Moble Homes
Consumer Report

Approx. 2-25-11 rain water started leaking into my kitchen near my backdoor. My home was only about five and a half years old at the time. I contacted the Greenville, NC Oakwood sales lot where I purchased the home because the shingles on the roof were warrantied for 20 years. From March to May I tried to get help from Oakwood to no avail.in May I had the roof replaced at a cost of $4,100.00 to me. When the roof was replaced the roofing contractor stated the roof had been leaking longer than three or four months and it was caused by poor workmanship, the shingles and vents had been improperly installed. He stated it has been leaaking for some time and had finally rotted the wood enough to start leaking through. Again I attempted to get Oakwood to accept responsibility and they again refused. I then filed a insurance claim against my home owners policy, after several weeks an insurance adjuster came out to look at my home and Home First Agency wanted ye another adjuster to come out and look at my home. That took three weeks for this to happen. The second adjuster not only agreed my roof needed replacing but found and showed me additional damage and stated that depending who did the work, replacing a portion of the wall and floor around my back door and replacing a portion of the wall and floor in my son's bedroom and replacing the insulation under my home, I was looking at an additional 4 to 6 thousand dollars. Home First Agency located in Maryville, Tenn. Denied my claim citing a clause in my policy covering rainwater leakage caused by improper workmanship. After some investigating on my part I have found that the company building the homes, Oakwood Homes, the mortgage company Vanderbilt and Home First Agency are all owned by the same parent company. Also I have found there seems to be alot of problems concerning workmanship and rainwater leakage with this company and alot of claims being denied. It seems they are aware they are selling a defective product to the public and the have built themselves their very own little loophole. I am a disabled person trying to live on Social Security. I'd be willing to bet if Vanderbilt still held a mortgage on my home they would want it fixed.
