I worked for Coastal Transport (or CT) twice now in the past few years. They are based out of Savannah, GA and primarily are a flatbed company.
The problem I had was that I live in an apartment complex with people that are low income. I have to pay the max rent naturally and my family and I live good, it's just we are saving to buy a home and this was the best place we could find when we first moved here. Anyways, some of my neighbors got jealous of what my family has and called in to report that I was taking people with me and letting them drive the truck.
I have driven a truck for over 20 years. I am not gonna deny the fact that I DID take someone with me that was unauthorised but I DID NOT let anyone drive my truck. I am in no way gonna jeoperdise the saftey of anyone especially myself!
Well the company told me to hurry up and get to my terminal at home. I talked with the manager and he advised me that I was to take the rest of the day off and he would call me the next morning with the result. I was a local driver at the time. The next morning he phoned me saying I was needed in his office. I went up there and he gave me a lecture on safety and advised me that I needed to get permission to let ANYONE ride with me.
I was told that someon in the company contacted the businesses I delivered to to ask if I anyone with me and was they driving and asked to see the parking lot video from that day. There was someone with me but at no time was anyone but me in the drivers seat. So I was asked to sign a form stating that my punishment was 2 days of missed work. The following week around Wednesday I was called back in the managers office. I was told that I needed to go home that Corporate in Savannah wanted to do something more but he had no idea what.
So I waited and waited until Friday at 9AM I called. Guess what??? I was told I was fired because I had let someone drive my truck. They apparently just took the word of my disgruntled neighbor (I had pissed her off by parking in her spot that wasnt hers to begin with it was where her boyfriend parked).
I wanted them to have a meeting with me and whomever made the alligation to be there but they said they couldnt because the person whom called in said that when I found out who she was I would kill her. I tried to explain to them about the problem I was having at the complex but they ddint want to hear of it. This was the first time I had been wrote up for anything. I think there should have been more done about it more investigation or something cause it caused alot of hardship on my family.
But, within an hour later I had a better job just a few miles on up the road. I am happy with the company I am with now. I still see all my old buds from Coastal and they to agree with me that it wasnt right what happened. It would be like someone calling in and saying I ran them off the road and they wanted money. They would probably send it to them and fire me. You cant always go by hear-say. I know my neighbor did it cause she bragged to the wrong person not long ago and it got back to my wife.
She was laughing about the fact that she just made one phone call and got me fired. She bragged how she knew about my taking certain people with me and just "added" on that they drove the truck. She said it must have really worked cause it made my family have to suffer and she was glad. But what she dont know is she done me a huge favor... I make alot more money now. Lol
